Sizzling show expected at ‘Kuching Got Talent’

TALENTED YOUTH: Kuching South mayor James Chan (centre, second row from back) with the finalists.

KUCHING: The ‘Kuching Got Talent’ (KGT) competition finale tomorrow looks set to be a sizzling show with a diverse group of 16 finalists comprising experienced performers and first-timers.

Break-dance and street dance group Feasible Crew, who placed in the top 10 of a nationally televised dance competition a few years ago, will not be taking the competition lightly.

“Our strategy to prepare for the competition is to practise day and night,” said a spokesman for the group after a finalists’ meeting recently. “We are treating everyone as our competitor.”

ACOUSTIC MEDLEY: Thian Eik Cher and Lee Chun Haw make up the duo Reader.

The St Joseph’s School Marching Band Colourguard are also no strangers to the limelight as they, together with the rest of the marching band, have represented Sarawak 10 times at the annual Malaysian Secondary School Marching Band Competition.

Colourguard requires a high level of coordination, strength and agility as members toss, juggle and balance flags and rifles in a tightly choreographed and synchronised routine set to music.

“We joined this competition for fun, but we are also making this part of our long-term preparation, to increase the exposure and experience for our members,” said drills and colourguard instructor Jason Yeo, who added that they will perform to a selection of music from the James Bond movie franchise for the finals.

Good friends 10-year-olds Jojo Ting and Chang Lee Shian, as well as 11-year-old Irene Bong are the youngest finalists.

They took up dancing seven years ago and met each other at dance school.

“We have a lot of fun dancing together as we share a lot in common even though we study at different schools,” said Chang. “We feel very happy to go to class as we can see each other there.”

It could easily be a case of sibling rivalry for singers Celine Bong, 17, and Belle, 14, who will be competing against each other.

The supportive sisters are likely to perform sentimental Chinese ballads during the finals.

Although both sisters were inspired to take up singing by their father, he isn’t their strongest supporter.

“Our mother is our biggest fan,” said Belle.

Ricashielyn Ho, 17, and Alexandria Kucha Ganeng, 18, praised organisers for putting together the event in support of local talents.

“I’ve learnt a lot of things and I’ve also made new friends along the way,” said Ricashielyn, who has been singing since she was three.

“I feel blessed to be in this competition with so many people who are really talented. This competition confirms what I’ve known all along that Kuching is full of talented people,” added Alexandria, who started singing in church when she was seven.

DYNAMIC DANCERS: DreamZ demonstrate their gymnastic abilities.

“However, they don’t have the opportunity to show their talents and no avenue to perform. We need more people to organise these type of events so that local talent can grow. I think the KGT organisers are doing a great job.”

Also in the finals are Just My Style (dance and hip-hop group), Noorfiza Sani (singer), Tan Boon Keong (b-boy and dance), DreamZ (acrobatic and modern dance), Summer Rhythm (medley singers), Chai Koh Khai (dance and artiste impressions), Reader (medley singing with guitar), The Redeemed (band), and Daryl Lai (singer).

The finals will begin at 7pm at the outdoor Kuching Festival Nightly Entertainment Stage.

The champion will receive RM2,500 and trophy, first runner-up RM2,000 and trophy and second runner-up RM1,500 and trophy.

There are also two consolation prizes of RM200 and a trophy.

RM500 and a trophy await the winner of the special Star Quality Award, where up to 20 additional marks will be given based on the applause received.

Judging will be conducted by a panel of entertainment industry judges from Kuching and Kuala Lumpur.

Contestants will be judged on ability, skill, talent, entertainment value, uniqueness, creativity, overall presentation and stage presence.

During the event organised by MBKS, event sponsor Astro will entertain the crowd with its artistes and DJs.

End of June 2012 :)

Listened this in my colleague's car this afternoon. Wow.. Nice lyrics..=)
Gonna focus on my postgraduate! Hey girl, I will still be at 7th Floor!

The Man Who Can't Be Moved

Going Back to the corner where I first saw you
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag I'm not gonna move
Got some words on cardboard, got your picture in my hand
Saying, "If you see this girl can you tell her where I am? "

Some try to hand me money, they don't understand
I'm not broke I'm just a broken hearted man
I know it makes no sense but what else can I do
How can I move on when I'm still in love with you

'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinkin maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet
And you'll see me waiting for you on the corner of the street
So I'm not moving, I'm not moving

Policeman says, "Son you can't stay here"
I said, "There's someone I'm waiting for if it's a day, a month, a year"
Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows
If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go

[Chorus:]
'Cause If one day you wake up and find that you're missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet
And you'll see me waiting for you on our corner of the street
So I'm not moving, I'm not moving,
I'm not moving, I'm not moving

People talk about the guy that's waiting on a girl
There are no holes in his shoes but a big hole in his world

Maybe I'll get famous as the man who can't be moved
Maybe you won't mean to but you'll see me on the news
And you'll come running to the corner
'Cause you'll know it's just for you
I'm the man who can't be moved

[Chorus 2x]

Going back to the corner where I first saw you
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I'm not gonna move

Life Isn't Fair Afterall..

After 11 months without a single post...

Currently, I'm working as an Electrical Engineer in a local company in my hometown, Sarawak Energy Berhad. Thank God, I'm well-taken care off by my manager and having caring colleagues in my division.

We have been talking, care about each other everyday, for 4.5 months since I joined the company and it makes me want to wake up and go to work every morning just to get to see a smile on her face.

But......

Sometimes in life, you want the best for yourself but in reality, you won't have all the things you want the most.

We might not be together in this universe, but if there's really another parallel universe out there, we might be together. :)

Holiday + WCMSB 2011

I arrived at KL on the 20th afternoon and went for cell group with my aunt. It was quite fun, making new friends and all. I met another ex sjs student who is currently working with Western Digital. The world is just too small. Haha.. Well, the following day, I rested at home, went to gym, walked around my aunt's condominium.
I just feel too lazy to do anything that day. At night, my aunt showed me a Taiwan drama, "The Fierce Wife". I got addicted to that drama after that.

Following day, I went out with Anthony. We went around Lowyat area, over to Pavilion. Went to Sephora and yeah, here we are...
After that, I spent my day at VI school, observing how their members rehearse and all. They just learn their movement 4 that afternoon. And yeah, I went dinner with Harisman and Syed at the mamak stall we used to hang out years ago during the Kuala Lumpur World Marching Band Competition. I was at VI school till midnight, and yeah, I went back. Their band continued to rehearse till 3-4am.

On Saturday, I met up with CheeWei. Went for brunch then I followed her to her church. The pastor is quite a good joker. Haha.. After that, I followed her back to her hostel because she needs to pack her stuff up and guess what, I saw this awesome BM signboard outside her hostel. BM + English. Awesome!
Headed to her rented place, University Tower and I get to play with her stethoscope and listened to my own heartbeat for the first time. lol. We went to One Utama for a walk after that and ate some A&W for dinner/supper. I went back home and continue watching drama with my aunt after that.

Sunday, I went breakfast with my aunt and then went to church to meet Melvin, my junior in high school. It has been a few years I didn't see him. Haha..

After church, I went dinner with my aunt, steamboat. Not bad, the place was full! I went to toilet and found another awesome BM. "Jirus" means "Sprinkle"! Not flush.. LOL..

Monday, I went over to VI school, and observe some other bands rehearsing. I was quite lucky, I managed to observe another 2 bands from Canada, rehearsing at VI field. Here are some pictures I took..

VI battery rehearsing under the tree. Calgary Stetson Marching Band rehearsing.

Went for lunch with Harisman and then I went to Time Square for a walk since the opening ceremony of the World Championship of Marching Show Bands, the street parade, was held at Bukit Bintang area. Pavilion to be exact. I met up with Christy for dinner and went for the parade together.

On Tuesday I was so tired. As a result, I decided to stay at home. I slept till noon and went to Old Town at the ground floor of the condominium for lunch and at the same time, was watching Xmen 2 there. lol. After that, I went to gym and walked around the condominium. At night, I went for dinner with my aunt at One Utama. The following day, I went and met Anthony at KL sentral. We drove to LCCT to pick up Avery. He went to KL for an interview with Sony company. Then we went to Lowyat again to look at those devices since Avery wanted to look for an Ipad.
Lunch at Lowyat, the best chicken rice restaurant I know in KL so far.
Went to Pavilion and yeah, that's what happened..

I was challenged to ask a girl to take a picture for the 3 of us.

In the evening, we went for the World Championship of Marching Show Bands Preliminary Round 1. Avery was like bored in the beginning and at the end, the last band, from Indonesia, he was like stunned and said, "wow, this band is not bad". LOL.
Look at those hot legs. Haha
After the competition, we went to Strawberry Cafe for dinner. Right after dinner, we went to the back for Papparich for supper, ICE KACANG. Goodness, the cendol is just too good. I can't finish it. We headed back to Avery's hotel, Armada Hotel and guess what, a lambo!

Next day, I went to Midvalley to shop for my family and met up Avery after his interview. We went for Nandos. He didn't want to go till he meets Christy. lol. Christy came and an hour after that, Siaw Yie came. We went for the Preliminary Round 2 together.
I met Oun! SJS 2007 Colorguard Instructor.

The next day, I didn't want to wake my aunt up early in the morning, I decided to walk down to grab a cab. I was a little late for the Drum Battle. However, I managed to watch part of Round 1, Round 2, QuarterFinals, SemiFinals and Finals! BatteryHeadz from Malaysia won the Drum Battle and MB Gita Surosowan from Indonesia was the runner up.

I can't remember which drumline is this but I know it's from Indonesia.

Red Deer Royal Drumline from Canada.

Firdaus and Bing came for the drumline and we went for lunch together. Headed to Sungai Wang and snap a couple of pictures before heading to our own destination.

I went to the Stadium after that, meeting up with JooLung and help out St Columba. I was impressed. They actually improved a lot since the last time I met them when I was at Miri. They managed to grab the bronze medal. Congratualations St. Columba Marching Band. Apart from that, VI band also improved heaps from Monday, the last time I saw them. They're just so good that makes me wanting to watch them more.

The next day, I followed my aunt and Ruth to Midvalley for breakfast. I had Chee Cheung Fan but it doesn't look like the one in Kuching. I was told that Kuching one is the one from Taiwan. Haha.. Then, my aunt brought me for a quick shop. Got myself a new pair of shoe and some formal clothings. Thanks to my aunt.

I met up with Esther after that and my aunt sent us to Sunway Pyramid to meet up with the rest.
Joo Lung, Esther, CheeWei and I went for a bite at some chinese restaurant which I can't remember the name. After that Esther, CheeWei and I went for ice skating together with Anthony and Rachel. Before we left Sunway, we had a photo session together.

Sunday, I went to Mom's place at Damansara for lunch with my aunt and her friends. After that I rested at home while my aunt went to style her hair and I followed Ruth to church. After church, I went dinner with my aunt and her church friends. Pastor Sean who is my senior in SJS, who is also my friend's brother, went as well. Haha. After dinner, I went to KL sentral and met up with Joo Lung and Harisman. We went to meet Shamsul at the mamak stall nearby VI school.

After that, we went and picked up Christy and then met up with Zamy, a thailand coach for a drink. They went to a club while Christy and I went opposite, to a restaurant for dinner. She hasn't take her dinner yet. So yea, we talked till 1am and Harisman sent us all home. Thanks to Harisman.

Thanks so much to all my friends at KL. I didn't have a hard time trying to catch the cab to go home late at night. It's hard to go home since I'm staying at Damansara and there's no train station nearby. Thanks buddies!

Following day, MELAKA!! I will post about Melaka again soon! :D
